In this month’s special birthday issue:...
Greetings healthy people,
Griffen Fitness is five years old!
To celebrate, this month I’m experimenting with a slightly different newsletter format, with three longer sections: firstly, an overview of what Griffen Fitness can do for you. Second up is your personal invite to the new studio launch, and finally finishing with an article of some Favourite bike rides around Edinburgh, written by my accountants. I chose Bolland and Burke as accountants because they ride bikes! Thankfully they are as good with accounting as cycling.
It struck me recently that you may not know exactly what Griffen Fitness offers, so here’s an summary of services available to you:
1 2 1 Personal Training
Individual training for a single client at the studio or from the comfort of their own home (off peak locally).
New clients need to book in for a five session block to start, so I can tailor a personalised fitness and nutrition programme to their lifestyle.
After that clients can continue regular bookings, or if they prefer, carry on by themselves.
Top up sessions are available for clients.
All sessions are one hour long and are £35 off peak (daytime weekdays) or £40 peak time (evenings and early mornings).
All clients always receive support and motivation between sessions.
Rate With a Mate
Two people training together
You can motivate each other and have the support of a mate.
It’s great value at £40 off peak or £45 peak for two people.

Group / Corporate Fitness
Griffen Fitness has guided groups in everything from bike rides to Workplace Workouts.
DIY Fitness: Personal Training for small groups is also a popular option, returning in winter with a focus on pre-empting the festive season. Sports specifically, I’m currently training a team of people to get fit to play polo at Gleneagles in August for the Festival Cup.
Boot Camps
Life coach Eilidh Macdonald Harte and I run boot camps upon request. A transformational experience for mind and body.
Events and Articles
In a previous life I used to manage events - hence the Real Foods event in March and Studio launch below. There will be another Real Foods Healthy Eating evening in October, so stay tuned for details. Check out the Griffen Fitness blog and The Leither and Pulse Magazines as well as Trinity and Stockbridge Spotlights for fitness articles. Need an injection of fitness into your organisation? Drop me a line...
Studio Hire
The Griffen Fitness studio is now available to hire Fridays to Sundays for £50 per day.
It’s suitable for small group workshops (8 people) or for a therapist.
Please contact me to arrange a visit and a cuppa herbal tea.
Aloe Vera
Griffen Fitness is an independent distributor of Forever Living Products, quality aloe vera products for your health.

Studio launch: 6pm Friday June 11th outside Griffen Fitness, 3 Balfour Street
We’re holding an unofficial street party on Balfour Street to:
a) launch the new studio
b) celebrate Griffen Fitness’s 5th birthday, and
c) for the fun of it.
There will be an attempt at mass skipping on the end of Balfour Street at 6pm. Los Cardos Fresh Mex are supplying some tasty nibbles, and there’s free fruit juice for all. Perhaps even some live acoustic music. We're also having a limbo competition, hula hooping lessons and hopscotch... Skipping ropes will be on sale for the special price of £4 (£1 off), with £1 from each rope going to Greener Leith. Come along between 5.30pm and 9pm on Friday June 11th for your slice of ol’ fashioned fun.
There will be daily updates on Twitter and on the weekly Griffen Fitness blog.
Please do let me know if you’re keen to get involved, as we’ll need helpers for the limbo and to hand out juice.
Favourite Cycle Rides around Edinburgh
Good accountants are essential when running a new business, becoming a Limited Company and moving into premises. Alan Burke and Iain Bolland of BBCA are always there for me to ask (numerous) accounting related questions to. They also like cycling, and here are some of their favourite bike rides:
Cramond
A ride to Cramond along the promenade can only be good for the soul. The ride is easy unless there’s a gale but the backdrop of the Forth and Fife make it a fabulous cycle. You can continue beyond Cramond on a designated cycle path to South Queensferry and beyond but for many a refreshing beveridge at the Cramond Inn marks a well-earned effort.
Arthurs Seat
A circuit (or two) of Arthurs Seat gets the legs going and offers some great views of Edinburgh and the Lothians. The climb up to Dunsapie Loch will get the lungs working but the effort is rewarded by the views down the coast. There’s the added bonus at weekends that cars are restricted from parts of the park leaving much of the route free to cyclists.
Innocent Railway
An extension of the route round Arthur Seat, the Innocent Railway follows the disused railway formerly used to transport the stone from the quarry on Arthurs Seat.
Granton
The cycle path between Granton and the town centre starts near the foreshore at Newhaven and takes you through an old railway tunnel. The route follows the line to Victoria Park and Warriston.
Thank you Alan and Iain for your contribution, and happy cycling folks
See you at the studio launch!
:)
